International Institute of Business Analysis announces fast track to new certification
Business analysts can now fast track their desire to acquire a professional designation when they obtain
the new Certification of Competency in Business Analysis™ (CCBA™).
International Institute of Business Analysis officially announced the launch of this intermediate
certification at its virtual Annual General Meeting in June. Applications will be available later
this year, and the first candidates are expected to write the new CCBA™ exam in January 2011.
Kathleen Barret, president and CEO, says “IIBA® is developing this new certification for professionals
who wish to expand their career options sooner and obtain quicker recognition for their ongoing investment
in their own professional development.”
She adds, “The new certification will also benefit organizations that need to signal to their
stakeholders that their business analysts have gained significant knowledge of best practices
and standards in their field.” The certification process itself also offers employers the
opportunity to assess staff competencies and recognize their professional achievement and
commitment to excellence.
Candidates can apply for the CCBA™ designation after they have accumulated about two and a
half years of business analysis experience within the past seven years. In contrast, an
individual must have accumulated five years of relevant work experience within 10 years
before he or she can apply to become a Certified Business Analysis Professional™ (CBAP®).
Both designations require candidates to make a robust commitment to professional development
and to adhere to the code of conduct for business analysts.
All certified business analysts gain proficiency in areas of knowledge outlined in the
Business Analysis Body of Knowledge® (BABOK®) Guide. However, professionals with the
intermediate CCBA™ certification will be able to apply their skills to smaller scope
and less complex tasks than those with the more rigorous CBAP® designation. Details on
how to obtain either designation can be reviewed in the Certification section of the
IIBA website www.theiiba.org.

On February 10, 2010, the Columbus Chapter of the International Institute of Business

success with 14 employers and over 100 analysts in attendance!
The evening began with an employer fair where attendees snacked on hors d’oeuvres,
mingled with other analysts, and were able to visit the employers’ booths to learn
about each company.
The employers represented included:
The employer fair was followed by a moderated panel discussion with ComResources,
Comsys, Dedicated Technologies, Nationwide, and Quick Solutions discussing what skills,
capabilities and experience they look for when hiring an analyst. The evening was capped
off with a raffle for many great prizes, including a Netbook Computer generously donated
by Comsys.

Out of the Gate - Keith Crabtree, Secretary, Columbus Chapter, IIBA®.
At last, our chapter is official! It has been a long road, but we did it. The
IIBA® has given us
official status and we are excited. In a sense, we have already left the gate and are thundering
down the field. Let me give you some stats on how we are doing ‘out of the gate’.
Over the past year, we have already had three meetings, with the fourth coming up in September.
Attendance at our meetings has averaged in the neighborhood of 50. We encourage attendees to
share basic information about themselves, which we hold in private. Even so, there are some
things I can share. From the signup forms at meetings, and from information gained from our
website, I can tell you that 170 people have expressed interest in the group so far. Of those 170…..
58 different companies are represented.
On average, each company is represented by 3 people.
The companies with the largest representations are: Nationwide – 20, Westfield Group – 9,
Perficient – 7, Sterling Commerce – 6, and State Auto – 5.
64 people have opted to be on our mailing list.
Not bad for a chapter just made official. Even so, we know that there are a lot more people and
companies we can reach. Spread the word, there is an official chapter of the
IIBA® in Columbus!
